Student Services Micro App

Background
The purpose of Starfish is ultimately to help college students reach their educational goals. But in practice, most of the interaction with the system is done by academic advisors. In order to free up time for advisors, some of whom have caseloads of hundreds or even over 1000 students, we’re putting more tools in the hands of students so they can take action themselves. A logical starting point for this approach is giving students better access to finding available support services — everything from advising and tutoring to career and disability assistance — and scheduling appointments.

We started by interviewing students at schools near our remote design team members and learning from them about how they manage their school schedules and interact with their advising services. From there, we leveraged some exploration we had started using our design system as part of a recent hackathon and began prototyping and testing a new experience for students to connect with their schools.
